The Department of Safeguards (SG) is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for some 180 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements.
The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries.

The Division of Concepts and Planning is responsible for strategic planning, the development and promotion of safeguards concepts and policy, the coordination of research and development activities, the implementation of the quality management system of the Department, and the provision and development of training.

As a member of a team led by the Section Head, the Safeguards Analyst develops elements of the State-level concept, evaluates safeguards approaches at the facility and State level, supports operations in implementation issues of all kinds, provides technical support for State and safeguards approach evaluations, and prepares working documents for consideration within the Department of Safeguards and by international consultant and advisory groups.

providing timely, accurate and efficient support to operations divisions to resolve safeguards implementation problems, and supporting safeguards inspections, training and other activities of the Department, as requested.

Prepare reports and presentations and effectively participate in discussions on international safeguards issues during Departmental meetings, international consultant and advisory group meetings, training activities, evaluation missions, and regional technical meetings, among others.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Master's Degree - Advanced university degree (or equivalent level degree) in nuclear or other engineering, physical science, mathematics, or a safeguards related discipline
At least seven years of relevant working experience in the nuclear fuel cycle industry, regulations, or research with knowledge of nuclear safeguards and nuclear materials management.
Experience in organizing and conducting working groups and technical meetings.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
