MSD is recruiting for a Medical Affairs Director to manage the medical department for Austria with direct leadership responsibility for the local Medical Advisors, Medical Science Liaisons and Medical Services Manager.
Work location is Vienna, Austria.
Reporting to the AVP Medical Affairs for the EURAM Region, the Medical Affairs Director will work in close collaboration with the country Managing Director, as a critical partner, and is therefore part of the Austrian Leadership Team.
The Medical Director interfaces closely with all colleagues of the management team, particularly with the Customer Unit Leads, the Customer Solutions Lead, the Heads of Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Trial Operations, Pharmacovigilance, Quality Control, and Legal / Compliance.
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Serve as a member of the local leadership team and as the Chief Medical Officer
Chair the Country Medical Governance Council and ensure that functional groups with Medical (Clinical, Regulatory, Safety and Medical Affairs) are collaboratively planning, executing and measuring all activities with an emphasis on customer-focus and compliance
Oversee all local Medical Affairs (MA) activities with a focus on local MA strategy and the development of Medical Affairs Plans (MAP)
Establish, manage and own local Scientific Leader (SL), investigator, and other key stakeholder relationships
Represent the company with Scientific Leaders and the press
Oversee the medical information manager / medical advisors to provide accurate, comprehensive, medically relevant information services
Build and manage relationships with regulatory and reimbursement authorities
Support development of clinical trial strategy for the country and the global business and taking appropriate action to ensure proper implementation, providing input into local study feasibility and site selection
Advise the management team on medical and scientific matters
Provide medical and scientific input and advice to customer units, market access / access alliance functions and others as required, as well as input into Health Economics
Identify licensing opportunities
Ensure compliance with all applicable country and internal regulations (incl. scientific approval of promotional materials, FCPA, etc.
and act as member of the compliance committee
Enhance the company reputation and profile through an external focus, by representing the company on cross-company boards and industry associations
Medical Degree along with significant experience in Medical Affairs; ideally a close familiarity with the other medical functions within the Local Medical Council (Clinical Research, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance)
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with medical opinion leaders and regulatory / reimbursement agencies
Excellent scientific and medical knowledge and within the products and therapeutic areas
Documented drug development and life cycle management knowledge
Strong technical writing, verbal communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to communicate with health authorities and other key stakeholders
Regulatory Compliance Knowledge and ability to review promotional material
Knowledge of local, regional, and global laws, policies, requirements, guidelines and operating procedures
Documented ability to manage health authority, regulatory and compliance inspections
Proven ability to effectively interact with business units and global MA to develop local MA strategy and contribute to the shaping of global MA strategy
Proven ability to understand local business goals and objectives and to contribute to country operations strategies
Financial acumen, business operations knowledge and an understanding of commercial and research business
Experience interacting with health authorities and ability to provide input to protocol feasibility
Good Safety and Pharmacovigilance (PV) Knowledge and ability to understand PV legal and corporate requirements to support reporting to health authorities
Good Clinical Operations Knowledge and an understanding of site selection, recruitment, performance management
Demonstrated ability to influence and manage in a matrix organization
Fluency in both German and English with strong communication skills on a very high level
The minimum annualsalary for thispositionis EUR 93.000 gross and variesaccording to the qualifications and experience of the successfulcandidate.
