At the Institute of Interdisciplinary Construction Process Management of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor for the specialist field of Industrial Building in form of a part time position (20 hour per week) is to be filled as of 1 st October 2022 for the period of five years.

This is a professorship regulated by 99 para. 1 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).

The position as professor for Industrial Building has been allocated in the development plan of the Faculty of Civil Engineering to the following Areas of Research : Energy and Environment, Additional Fields of Research.

With the implementation of Industry 4.0, industrial building in the 21st century is facing a disruptive paradigm shift that requires a completely new interplay between construction and technology.

This requires in particular a merging of physical and virtual worlds in construction and production, the integration of industrial architecture into multifunctional urban structures, the energetic interconnection between production and building as well as with the structural environment and application development in the use of new building materials and processes.

The professorship is intended to secure the faculty's unique position in industrial construction in the German-speaking university area.

Requirements include experience and profound knowledge in holistic planning and execution of complex industrial building projects, corporate project development, project organization, project management under consideration of human, ecological, economical and sociological aspects and their effects on the planning processes.

Knowledge of project financing, real estate and construction management (corporate real estate management) ideally rounds out the profile.

It is expected that the cooperative research between university and industry with a focus on the topic area of digital planning for Industry 4.

0. will be continued and the synergy effects at the research unit will be further expanded, all the more so as the professorship is integrated into an interdisciplinary institute environment that is unique in the German-speaking area.

In addition to research, the duties of a university professor at TU Wien also include teaching in Bachelor, Master and PhD programs.

Special emphasis is placed on didactic skills to stimulate creative work, to train interdisciplinary thinking and to impart competence in the coordination of different planning areas.

Your profile :

  • Completed doctoral or PhD studies in a relevant field of the announcement from a domestic or equivalent foreign university or research institution or achievement of an equivalent scientific qualification
  • The qualification for teaching at university level (venia docendi) acquired at a domestic or equivalent foreign university or an academic qualification recognisable as being equivalent to the venia docendi
  • High scientific reputation , proven by publications in internationally scientific journals, patents, scientific lectures, editorial and expert work, organization of conferences, prices etc.
  • and / or proven practical experience in the fields of the professorship

  • Relevant joint research experiencewith national and international reputation as well as the ability to form networks, proven e.
  • g. by extended relevant stays abroad or through cooperation with foreign universities and research institutions

  • Experience in the acquisition, execution and management of research projects
  • The ability and willingness to manage a research division or a research group
  • Pedagogic and didactic suitability for academic teaching in German and / or English
  • In case there is no adequate knowledge of German, willingness to quickly learn German is presupposed for teaching in bachelor programmes and participation in management of the institute and the faculty as well as in university bodies.
  • English proficiency at level B2 is required
