CEST is the Austrian Competence Center for applied electrochemistry and surface technology with owners from industry and science.
Examples of our projects are the post-treatment of 3D printed components, development of bioelectrochemical sensors, the production of functional surfaces for catalysis, energy storage and aerospace and the study of corrosive mechanisms down to the atomic level.
Our vision is to bring top-class research in electrochemistry and surface technology from the laboratory to industrial application.
We contribute our share to keep the Austrian and European industry globally competitive.
To pursue our goals, we are currently looking for a
PhD student for Corrosion sensing using AI
Topic : Corrosion causes enormous damage to mechanical structures in many industrial sectors, and the aviation sector is no exception.
Aircraft operators, manufacturers, and their suppliers in Austria and beyond are confronted with corrosion problems on a daily basis.
To extend the life of airframes without compromising safety, it is very important to have a clear picture of the state of corrosion (SoC) of the aircraft and its parts.
It is therefore essential to develop methods that are suitable for real-time monitoring of the SoC and subsequent reliable notification of corrosion-related structural deterioration.
The goal of the project within which the PhD thesis is planned is to develop a multi-sensor setup for monitoring the SoC based on ultrasonic, electrochemical and environmental sensors coupled with advanced AI algorithms including computer generated neural network architectures (AutoML) to identify relevant features of the multi-sensor data for corrosion monitoring.
