At the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of the TU Wien a professorship is offered regulated by 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG) with an indefinite-term employment (full-time) from January 2022 .

The position as professor for Numerical Fluid Mechanics has been allocated in TU Wien’s development plan to the following TU Focal Area of Research : Computational Science and Engineering.

The professorship is intended to strengthen and further develop the interdisciplinary field of numerical methods for modelling complex flow situations such as "fluid-solid interactions", "multiphase flow", "phase transition", "mass transport and mass transformation (chemical reactions)", as well as "optimization, model reduction, machine learning or uncertainty quantification".

  • The Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering has the following research foci : "Energy, Mobility and Environment";
  • Materials, Production and Management"; "Human Centred Design, Health and Medicine" and "Digital Engineering Innovation".

    With the appointment of this professorship, at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, the interdisciplinary research topics within the faculty will be strengthened.

    The cooperation with national and international industrial partners and research centres is a particularly important point here.

    In addition to research, the tasks of a university professor at the TU Wien include teaching (in German and English) in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD studies as well as collaboration in the management of the institute and the faculty.

    Teaching responsibilities include mandatory courses in the fundamentals of numerical methods and in the subject area to be covered.

    The applicant is expected to further develop the content and didactics of teaching as an integral part of the faculty.

    Your profile :

  • Completed doctoral or PhD studies in the field of numerical fluid mechanics from a domestic or equivalent foreign university or research institution
  • The qualification for teaching at university level (venia docendi) acquired at a domestic or equivalent foreign university or an academic qualification recognisable as being equivalent to the venia docendi
  • High scientific reputation , proven by publications in internationally prestigious scientific journals, patents, scientific lectures, editorial and expert work, organization of conferences, awards etc.
  • Relevant joint research experiencewith national and international reputation as well as the ability to form networks, proven e.
  • g. by extended relevant stays abroad or through cooperation with foreign universities and research institutions

  • Experience in the acquisition, execution and management of research projects
  • The ability and willingness to manage a research division or a research group
  • Pedagogic and didactic suitability for academic teaching in German and / or English. The teaching in the Bachelor s program should be in German
  • Experience in the supervision of scientific work of students
  • Ideally, the prospective position holder has social and gender competence or experience in the promotion of young researchers and the advancement of female students / colleagues / employees
  • It is expected that the future holder of the position will shift his / her centre of life to Vienna ( on-site presence )
  • German language skills (Language Level C1 according to the European Reference Framework GeR) for teaching in the Bachelor s program as well as for working in the management of the institute, the faculty and in university committees
  • Industry experience, experience with industry projects and the acquisition of third-party funds
  • Interdisciplinary thinking and willingness to cooperate with the application-oriented research institutes of TU Vienna
