Organizational Setting

The Department of Management’s Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its five Sections, namely the Archives and Records Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management Section (FMS), the Transport and General Support Section (TGSS), and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS).

The Transport and General Support Section is responsible for the co-ordination of the IAEA's travel requirements among the Departments and the Agency's Travel Management Company, handling of official shipments, household goods storage and removals, management of the IAEA official vehicles, processing of duty travel visas, Austrian visas and UNLPs.

It also prepares and processes petrol tax refunds for official vehicles and diplomats, issues and renews Austrian residency permits ('legitimation' cards) for eligible staff members, experts, fellows, consultants, and interns.

The Section also provides housing services to IAEA staff.The Transportation Unit, under the Travel and Transportation Section in the Division of General Services, MTGS, handles the Agency'sshipment / removal of household goods which are approximately 300 freight authorizations per year with a value of about Euro 3.2 milion.

Main Purpose

The Driver handles the official transportation of the Director General, Deputy Directors General and other eligible staff members.

In additon, he / she serves as a courier between the IAEA and the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Embassies and Permanent Missions.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Drive IAEA senior staff to their official functions ensuring that passengers arrive on time and without delay.
  • Collect and deliver customs declarations and other correspondences including dispatch and distribuion in the VIC.
  • Perform errands en route and off route, as instructed. Keep log book for journeys, petrol, money, etc.
  • Ensure safety of passengers and documents and correspondences transported.
  • Decide and select the quickest and safest route of transport within set time schedules.
  • Ensure the physical safety of passengers, assess the situation and give advice to passengers.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the cars and keep them in good condition including providing advice on periodical check-up.
  • Provide back-up on other drivers in their specific duties.
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned.

    Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Completed secondary education.
  • Minimum of two years of defensive driving experience possibly involving transport of persons (taxi, mini-bus) as well as good references are requested.
  • Experience and certification in all aspects of personal protection desirable.
  • Overall health / physical condition must be appropriate (subject to periodic medical control).
  • Appropriate dress code is required for this position.
  • Working beyond normal working hours is expected and required for this position.
  • Good knowledge of oral and written English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • English language test (Level 2) to IAEA standard.
  • Remuneration

    The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 34765 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance

    Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Recruitment will be on a LOCAL BASIS only. Outside applicants are required to supply to the IAEA or to authorize it to seek all information relevant to their suitability for employment by the IAEA.

    Testing may be part of the recruitment process.
